Officially founded on May 25th, 1975, though transmission
was initiated on may 5th the same year.  QNA commits itself to standing journalistic objectivity and fairness principles and carries out its duties with due comprehensives and speed.


Usual daily transmission extends to 18 hours a day, but at times of hot developments the transmission extends to 24 hours a day.
 
QNA disseminate its news main service to its subscribers in Arabic and English languages. Yet a daily
services in Spanish and Portuguese is disseminated to subscribers, especially those in Latin America and the Caribbean area.


QNA has a large network of correspondents who cover major events from Gulf, Arabian and world capitals, using state-of –the art communication technology in sending their coverage to the headquarters.  

 

The daily standard number of news disseminated is about 255 items.  


QNA covers all events and developments at the domestic level and major world events and developments. Every time there is an event or development in Qatar QNA establishes media center to provide facilities for media men to send their works to where they wanted.  At times of international developments QNA sends technical mission to provide technical means needed for enhancing news coverage of its press team.


QNA is using most up-to date technology communications at its various types of activities, adopting net news, as a comprehensive news coverage network, integrating all sectors, including correspondents.  QNA uses communications satellites to guarantee accurate and fast coverage.


QNA photo service section supplies local and foreign media with photos on events to everywhere needed in the world, through state-of- art photo transmission technology. Radio monitoring section at QNA works round the clock, using powerful receivers, its staff can scan 32 frequencies at the same time.

 

QNA has a trustful documentary service which publishes books on most important local and international events that proved to be of greater benefit to researchers and official circles.  Most outstanding of the books published were :

  1. Documentary publications on the Co-operation council for the Arab states of the gulf which documents GCC summit meeting, annually held and other major GCC achievements.

  2. A documentary book on Camp David peace agreements between Egypt and Israel.

  3. A documentary book the second Gulf War, containing all its important developments.

  4. The massacre, Crime of the Century, a book documenting events of Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1992 and the Shabra and Shatilla massacre committed then by Israeli invading troops.

  5. Palestine, a state born in Gaza and Jericho, a documentary book on Oslo agreements between Palestinians and Israelis.

  6. The Umm-al Quraa book documenting Islamic summit conferences.

 

QNA is a member of the Federation of Arab News Agencies and a member in the Non-Alignment countries News Agencies pool.

 

QNA has agreements on news exchange with many Arab and international news agencies.  
 

QNA has been approved by Federation of Arab News Agencies as a center for distributing news from Arab News Agencies to South East Asia and the Pacific News Agencies Pool and receives the pool’s news as well.

QNA is a member of the executive council of the Islamic News Agencies Federation and distributes the bulletin of the International Islamic News Agency.
