Qatar played a prominent and pioneering role in the establishment of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on 25 May 1981. Since then, thanks to the efforts exerted by all its members, GCC has endeavored to serve the interests of the countries of the region and implement their goals in stability, progress and comprehensive development.
The consolidation of Qatar's relations with other GCC members and strengthening the ties of fraternity and integration with them has been a top priority in foreign policy. In addition, Qatar contributes to the implementation of integration and cohesion among GCC countries to meet the aspirations of our peoples as regards promotion of security, stability, development and common fate.
GCC summit conferences have yielded important strategic decisions and numerous implementation rules in the fields of political cooperation, military and defense coordination as well as economic integration.
H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, and other GCC leaders attend the GCC sessions since he became the ruler of Qatar in 1995.
