Qatari law obliges employers to pay employees no less than the amount stipulated in their contract. In the event of termination of an employment agreement, the employee’s contractual rights shall be met in full by the employer within one working day. If a worker leaves his job without giving his employer prior notice, this period shall be extended to one week. Employees are also entitled to receive their salary and their vacation salary before their annual vacation.The maximum working week in Qatar is 48 hours. This reduces to 36 hours during the Holy Month of Ramadan in which the working day is six hours, including a one-hour break.
The maximum length of time during which an employee may work continuously is five hours and each worker is entitled to at least one day’s paid leave per week.A worker who has been with his current employer for less than five years is entitled to a minimum of three weeks holiday leave per year. This rises to four weeks for all other workers. It should be noted hat the right to leave may not be waived. The Labor Law is applicable to both employers and employees, and specifies the rights and responsibilities of each party.
