The Supreme Council for Family Affairs was established under the presidency of H.H. the Emir's Consort, Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Misnad. This was in accordance with the Emiri Decree No. (53) Of the year 1998. The decision came as an embodiment of the political leadership's aspiration to have a supreme national authority in charge of the affairs of the Qatari family. A body caring for the family, examining its reality, diagnosing its ills and needs and at the same time fulfilling its aspirations. It works in cooperation and coordination with the government agencies, ministries and national institutions, which offer basic services in the social, economic, educational, health, cultural and media arenas.
The Council aims to form strong, stable, healthy and independent families that are proud of their culture and Arab-Islamic heritage, as well as families that are aware of their rights and responsibilities and actively participate in constructing an open minded, productive society blessed with stability and prosperity.
- Mission of the council:
- To uplift the family and promote the role of its members and their status by participating in reviewing the current legislation and proposing new ones in the future.
- To propose and lay out plans, programs and projects to ensure the family’s development and the prosperity of its members.
- To enhance the role of national institutions, which offer basic services in the social, economic, educational, health, cultural, media and environmental areas in order to raise the level of their services to meet national ambitions and in accordance with international standards.
- To promote national initiatives and private participation aimed at consolidating the position of the family unit and supporting the role it plays.
- Goals:
- To enhance the role of the family in society, to care for the family and strengthen its ties and to study the challenges facing the family and recommending suitable actions.
- To achieve goals stated in international charters relating to family affairs, and work for the empowerment of women and their participation in the social, political and economic life.
- To improve the conditions of working women. To supervise the care for and rehabilitation of those with special needs.
- To coordinate the activities of the country's civic society institutions on one hand and regional and international organizations on the other.
- To study the challenges facing youth and suggest appropriate solutions in coordination with relative state authorities.
