Qatari Search and Rescue Aircraft Leaves to Haiti

Doha, January 14 (QNA) - Qatar sent Thursday a strategic transport aircraft (C - 17) to Haiti's capital, Port-Au-Prince, loaded with 50 tons of urgent Qatari aid to those affected in the quake-hit country. In a statement to Qatar news agency (QNA) the Chairman of the Qatari rescue team Captain Mubarak Sherida Al Kaabi said, ''the emergency assistance to the friendly Haitian people, came under the directives of High Command in Qatar as part of its continuous efforts to provide shelter, clothing, food and medicine to the needy and affected by natural disasters in brotherly and friendly countries.''
Captain Al Kaabi said the team included 26 members from the Qatari armed forces, the internal security force (Lekhwiya), police forces, the Hamad Medical Corporation, and will provide its services in the capital Port-Au-Prince and other affected areas in Haiti.
The Qatari search and rescue team and crews have previous similar experience in Indonesia and Pakistan and is currently enjoying an international level of experience in such missions, Al Kaabi noted.
The Qatari team will establish a field hospital in the quake-hit area to provide the needed medical assistance to the victims. (QNA)
