Doha, March 09 (QNA) - Iranian Interior Minister Mustafa Najjar has hailed the Iran - Qatar ties as "intimate and good", thanks to the determination of the two countries' leaderships and their keenness to strengthen and deepen these relations in various fields.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Sheraton Hotel in Doha this evening, the Iranian Interior Minister expressed his satisfaction over the signing of the joint security agreement between Qatar and Iran, voicing on this occasion sincere thanks and gratitude and appreciation to H.H. the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, H.H. the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, H.E. the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani, H.E. Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani, and to the State of Qatar's Government and people.
He said the agreement between the two sides covered several areas of bilateral cooperation including increase of cooperation in guarding and protecting the borders as well as combating drug trafficking, combating crimes that fall between the two countries and beyond, such as terrorism, the fight against illegal migration, human trafficking and anti-counterfeiting of official documents .
He added that it was also agreed to cooperate in the maintenance of the borders and fight against money laundering and the smuggling of goods and historical relics.He said a joint working team between the two countries was formed, noting in this regard that the delegates and representatives of the two countries would meet annually and hold regular meetings in Tehran, Doha and would submit reports on the meetings and matters that are agreed upon by the Ministers of Interior in the two countries regularly.
The Iranian Minister Mustafa Najjar suggested that the signing of this security agreement could pave the ground to create the atmosphere of security and stability in the region, noting that there are many of the security agreements signed with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iraq, Turkey and Syria.
