Paris, April 29 (QNA) - Lyon won their first trophy in four years after Lisandro Lopez earned them a 1-0 win in the French Cup final against third division Quevilly, who were seeking to become the first amateurs to lift the trophy.
The Argentinian striker put the ball into an empty net from an Alexandre Lacazette cross in the 28th minute to give the seven-times league champions their fifth French Cup victory.
Lyon, who are fourth in Ligue 1 and lost the League Cup final 1-0 to Marseille two weeks ago, have thus secured a spot in next season's Europa League play-off round. The Ligue 1 side were in total control at the Stade de France but wasted numerous clear-cut chances.
But their opponents, who had reached the final by beating Marseille in the quarter-finals and Rennes in the semis, almost equalised when the Lyon keeper Hugo Lloris diverted a powerful Anthony Laup shot on to the woodwork in the 66th minute. (QNA)
