Amman, June 28 (QNA) - King Abdullah II of Jordan on Thursday discussed with Hamas Politburo Chief Khaled Mashaal the latest developments in the region as well as issues of common interest.
The King said that Jordan was doing its utmost of arrive at a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, the core of conflict in the region.
He also reiterated Jordan's support to the right of the Palestinians in establishing their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, Jordan's Petra news agency reported.
A solution to the Palestinian issue, he said, should be based on the two-state solution, international legitimacy resolutions as well as the Arab Peace Initiative.
He highlighted the need to enhance unity of the Palestinian people, which he said would contribute to achieving their legitimate rights.
"Jordan will continue its support to the Palestinians to ease their suffering through providing them with every possible assistance in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, the King said.
For his part, Mashaal voiced appreciation of Jordan's continued support to the Palestinians.
He said Hamas fully rejects all substitute homeland schemes and affirms the right of the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights, according to Petra. (QNA)
