Cairo, February 22 (QNA) -The 10th meeting of sectorial cooperation between the League of Arab States and the United Nations and their specialized agencies on "Cooperation in the field of humanitarian aid in the Arab region" opened here today. Ambassador Sima Bahous, Arab League Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs told reporters that although the agenda was prepared in advance and devoted to discussion on the challenges in the delivery of humanitarian assistance in the Arab region and the taking of advantage of the recent crises in Libya, Somalia and ways to address them, "but the situation in Syria was to be focused on given the worsening situation on the Syrian territory, and the accompanying human suffering in access to health and educational services as well as other basic living and social necessities.
Dr. Bahous recalled that Arab foreign ministers, in their decision issued on February 12, called for opening the door to Arab and foreign relief organizations, including the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Arab Doctors Union (ADU), Doctors Without Borders and other organizations to enable them to enter humanitarian relief materials to the affected Syrian citizens in order to improve the worsening humanitarian situation.(QNA)
