Nouakchott, July 02 (QNA) - the presidential election campaign started Thursday in Mauritania, ahead of the July 18 election vote that will include 10 presidential candidates. Six new candidates have come forward, including the three main opposition leaders, after a successful international bid to end a political crisis that began with a military coup last August. The three leaders are Ahmed Ould Daddah, head of the main opposition party, the Rally of Democratic Forces, parliamentary speaker Messaoud Ould Boulkheir, who is the candidate of the National Front for the Defence of Democracy, and Jemil Ould Mansour, leader of the Islamist party Tewassoul. Mauritanian president, Sidi Ould Sheikh Abdullahi, has formally resigned as part of a power-sharing deal with the nation''s military rulers, while opposition leader, Ahmed Ould Daddah has expressed commitment to bring about a comprehensive and genuine change in the country.
