Berlin, July 03 (QNA) - Germany plans to send additional police officers to Afghanistan, a German government spokesman announced on Friday. Over the next 12 months, the German interior ministry plans to increase to 200 the number of German officers working on a bilateral police training programme in Afghanistan. This represents a tripling of the current German police deployment under the scheme, German Press Agency dpa reported. The German officers are to assist in training their Afghan counterparts. This will enable the creation of an additional 450 police training positions, bringing the total to 700. Germany also plans to strengthen its involvement in the European Police Mission EUPOL in Afghanistan. There are presently more than 100 German police officers operating in the region, as part of both EUPOL and the Afghan-German bilateral programme. (QNA)
